Sasol in Mozambique sponsored the National Basketball Championship through a three seasons Memorandum of Understanding, signed with the Mozambican Basketball League (LMB). The agreement states that 24% of the budget must be allocated to the development of basketball in Inhambane Province, through organising and hosting of provincial competitions and the promotion of basketball in Govuro, Inhassoro, and Vilankulo districts who are home to Sasol’s operations.
It was in this context that the IV Edition of the Under-17 3X3 (three by three) Basketball Tournament was held on Saturday, 08 June 2024. The tournament saw a participation of 36 teams from the districts of Govuro, Inhassoro and Vilankulo. The teams were made up of 144 youngsters, 72 of whom were males and 72 were females.
At the tournament, António Madeira, President of the LMB said that Sasol sponsored event guarantees the sustainability of basketball in the country and is an example of good quality corporate citizenship.
‘We thank Sasol which, through sponsorship and collaboration, makes it possible to create adequate infrastructure and organise sporting events that raise the level of basketball in our region.’ said Cecilia Mauaie, Permanent Secretary of Govuro District.
