Sasol Promotes Sport and Health in Gaza Province

Sport is considered as one of the main tools for transmitting values and guiding young people towards healthy habits. It is on this basis that Sasol, in partnership with ROMPCO, sponsored a local recreational football championship for both females and males in the Guijá District, Gaza Province.

The championship, whose final took place in April in the community of Chinhacanine, Mubanguene Administrative Post, included the donation of sports equipment to the 30 participating teams, prizes, and also rendered the necessary logistics support to make the event a success.

Representing Sasol, Mashudu Ndou, Vice-President responsible for Community Relations in Pipeline Operations, reiterated the company’s commitment to continue working with the government in public education for young people on the safety of the infrastructure that transports gas from Temane to South Africa.

According to the District Administrator, Jaime Mugabe, Sasol and ROMPCO’s support came at an appropriate moment, as Caniçado (the district capital) celebrates its 60th anniversary and focuses on an area considered a priority by the local government, which is engaging young people in sports and cultural activities.

Also, during the visit to the Guijá District in Gaza Province, Sasol’s Vice-President of Community Relations in Pipeline Operations, Mashudu Ndou, witnessed the donation of around 5,000 female hygiene kits, delivered to students from approximately 35 schools in the District. This action is carried out by Sasol in partnership with ROMPCO, which the vice-president described as “A day to offer dignity to the girls of Ndonga.”

On the occasion, the school community, parents, and local authorities described Sasol’s initiative as an important gesture of humanising the relationship between the company and the communities through which the pipeline transporting gas from Temane to South Africa passes.

ROMPCO (Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investments Company) is a partnership between CMG (40%), iGas (40%), and Sasol (20%).
