Banyana Banyana squad announced ahead of the Malawi friendly

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has named a full-strength squad for two upcoming friendly internationals against Malawi on 5 and 8 April 2025.

This announcement comes as the team gears up preparations for the defence of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy that will be hosted from 5-26 July 2025.

This will be the second friendly for the national team in 2025, following the first one against Lesotho last month. Coach Desiree Ellis has restored the bulk of the squad that travelled to Jamaica in November last year.

Nozipho Mbatha, Senior Manager: Group Brand and Sponsorships, said, “Each time our players are called up to the national team, it’s not just an opportunity to represent our country, it’s an opportunity to showcase their incredible talent on a global stage. A heartfelt congratulations to every player for reaching this significant milestone and for continuing to inspire us all through their dedication and skill. We also wish to commend the coach and her technical team for working relentlessly to build a strong and competitive squad. As we prepare for WAFCON, this is the perfect moment for our players to refine their skills, gain valuable experience, and prove themselves against top-tier competition. At Sasol, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support our women footballers as they continue to ‘Live the Impossible’ and leave their mark on the international stage”.

The team will face the Scorchers in the first match on the 5th of April and play their second game three days later on the 8th of April at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
