Talent galore at 2022 The Sasol League National Championships

Sasol League National Championship

The Sasol League National Championships, currently underway at the Old Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo continues to be a spectacle of good football and young ladies chasing their dreams of playing in professional leagues soon.

The first match of day 2 was a true reflection of living the impossible when the local outfit, Copperbelt Ladies, came from behind to emerge victorious in their match against Mpumalanga’s TS Galaxy Ladies. The team was 2-0 down but made a huge turnaround, conquering their counterparts with a convincing 3-2 win. Those who found the net for TS Galaxy Ladies FC were Njalo Fonzama and Rennika Khoza, while Fiona Namanyana, Rethabile Ndlovu and Karabo Sethosa scored for the Copperbelt Ladies FC. The Diski Queen title was awarded to Copperbelt Ladies’ Rethabile Ndlovu.

The second match was also highly energetic – the students battled it out to determine who would be best between the two. Gauteng’s Tuks FC wasted no opportunities, beating the Free State’s Central University of Technology (CUT) FC 3-0. Goal scorers included Mamokoena Menoe, Lethabo Ledwaba and Gugu Dhlamini, who was also named Diski Queen.

The final game of the day, between Northern Cape’s Royal Wizard FC and NWU Tawana FC started slow. The teams had reached a stalemate at halftime – however, the second half brought in new energy, with the students recording a 2-0 win, thanks to Zanile Khoza and Jane Mkhonza who was also crowned Diski Queen.

“Today was another day where we saw skills and talents meet on the field; teams demonstrated what is possible through hard work and determination”, said Dean Somerset, Sasol Group Brand and Sponsorship Manager. “I was also pleased to see the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana assistant coach, Cameron Cox in attendance, scouting for talent for the national teams. He also presented the Diski Queens with their cheques”.
